In front of Field there is a Little Free Library. A Little Free Library (LFL) is similar to the library inside the school, just a little bit different. A LFL is a wooden box made in any shape you please and you can take a book and leave a book, you can take a book and return it, or you can take the book of your choice and keep it. Girl Scout Troop 835 built this Little Free Library as a Silver Award project and chose to put it in front of Field so the others in the neighborhood could have access to the library and anyone from the school could take a book. The LFL was put in front of Field in the fall of 2014 and since then it has been going strong.

I went to Field from kindergarten through fifth grade, now I go to Meyzeek Middle and am in sixth grade. I am also part of Girl Scout Troop 835, who built the Little Free Library. I am proud to announce that the Field Elementary Little Free Library has been declared a Library of Distinction by littlefreelibrary.org. You can see our library listed on the Pinterest Page http://pinterest.com/ltlfreelibrary/, on a special board called Libraries of Distinction.

But, none of this would have been possible without the help of two amazing Field parents, Emily Fisher and Derek Paprocki, and their design and construction company Rock, Paper, Hammer. They donated the library designs and materials (almost all recycled), and gave us workshop time and help to build them. This is the link to their website if you want to learn more about this wonderful company, http://www.rockpaperhammer.com/. Without their help, we wouldn't have been able to build the Little Free Library that is now standing outside Field (or the other three libraries we built for Family Scholar House, Lincoln Elementary, and the Reservoir Park neighborhood).

We also need to thank all of the Field families that donated books to our book drive last spring. Troop 835 stocked the library with books from the drive and have added more books to the library several times to keep it full.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Field's Little Free Library a Library of Distinction, we couldn't have done it without you!
